Black Futsu Squash
Cucurbita moschata Days to Maturity: 95-110 We LOVE the subtle and rich flavor of this moschata squash! Black Futsu Squash is an orange Japanese heirloom pumpkin with deep green ribbed skin that ripens to a warm orange hue. We liken the flavor to a mild acorn-- nutty and rich but with beautiful soft, subtle tones and a smooth, stringless texture. Ideal for roasting, soups, pies, pickling, or even tempura. The skin is also thin, delicious and edible! In addition, it blossoms for about 6 weeks in the summer and the squash blossoms are edible too! Each squash weights in at 3-6 pounds, with several fruits per plant on long, vigorous vines. We are so happy to find a new, delicious moschata as an alternative to butternut, allowing us to save its seeds without cross-pollination from our pepos and maximas. Store these for at least several months into the winter. Planting Instructions: Sow Black Futsu Squash directly in the ground after all danger of frost has passed & soil has warmed a bit
