Antique Lovely Lady Cameo Ring Silver Gilt Frame

I have two rules when it comes to cameos, they have to be either interesting scenes or pretty ladies. This pretty lady had me at hello. She has a lovely expressive face and is a wonderful, deep carving. This wonderful ring was likely a brooch in her first life and has been beautifully transformed to be worn as a ring. She is carved in shell and was most likely made in Italy and brought back to England as a souvenir from some Victorian’s Grand Tour. The ring is crafted in silver which has been gilded in gold. The face of the ring measures 31 mm north to south and 19 mm across, it sits 10.2 mm off the finger and narrows to 3.6 mm wide at the back of the band. This wonderful ring is a size 9.75, it weighs 9 grams. The top of this lovely ring was likely made around 1890, I bought it as a ring so I don’t know when (or even if for that matter) it was converted. It is marked ‘silver’ inside the band.
