If I’m very, very lucky, I get a whole day off in Europe. When it falls in London on a weekday I inevitably find myself at The Tower, ogling the crown jewels. When it falls on the weekend, I avoid the (too crowded for me) Tower and head over to Regent Street to visit the immensely beautiful Tudor shops of Liberty of London. Arthur Lasenby Liberty promoted the work of many Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau designers and the store still retains some of it’s Arts & Crafts feel. Makes this girl pretty happy to shop and have their Perrier Jouët Afternoon Tea, complete with pastries and clotted cream! This mother of pearl and 15 karat gold brooch was created by Murrle Bennett and Co. and could have been hanging out at Liberty and Co. when it was new, around 1910. It’s got a lot of style and beautiful whiplash and leave design. The brooch measures 34 mm wide and 16 mm high, it weighs 4.8 grams. Marked with a makers mark and ’15ct’.
