Kate Greenaway was a beloved children's writer and illustrator and a contemporary of Beatrix Potter. She wrote the book, 'Under the Window' which was a best-selling collection of stories about idyllic children's life. There is a medal named in her honor which is still given today to illustrators of children's books.Her wonderful characters were used widely in Victorian times to decorate porcelain, clothes, and all manner of items. This sweet Victorian bangle is a stunning example. The bangle is completely hand crafted in sterling silver with lovely gold floral accents and features a beautiful child in Victorian dress sitting on a fence rail. This truly lovely bangle is not marked, but has been acid tested to verify content. It was most certainly made in England in about 1880. It would fit a wrist up to about 7.5 inches around.
