The Georgian Era saw quite a few upheavals in fashion and culture in its 100 + year history. Topaz was a popular gemstone throughout the era, along with garnets, emeralds, rubies, pearls, and turquoise. Crosses and crucifixes were also in favor. Many gemstones were still foil-backed while Old Mine cut diamonds were just beginning to be open-backed. The end of this era saw intricate designs with metal smiths using twisted gold wire in foliate designs called cannetille work, this was a style choice made to make the piece pop with just one glance.
