Boruca Toucan - Slingshot The Boruca Indigenous Slingshot is still used today and resembles the traditional style slingshot most hunters around the world recognize. Typically, Borucan hunters would just cut down a small sabling tree with a natural fork in it to use to make the slingshot. Though Boruca Indigenous today have moved more towards farming and fishing for food, there is still a passion for all things outdoors. Hunting larger game in Costa Rica has been largely forbidden and all hunting is illegal for most Costa Ricans. However, Indigenous have limited rights to hunt on their ancestral land for survival. This new reality for indigenous hunters has given rise to the use of primitive projectile weapons like the slingshot that is easy to carry, silent, accurate, and practical for small game.
