Foggy Sunrise Bugle
I was hiking along the Snake River, well before sunrise, hoping for a bull elk to cross with his harem. While waiting, I noticed a bald eagle perched in a pine tree on the opposite bank. I gauged the wind and knew that if the eagle took flight before the sun got too high, it could be a very special shot. So I rotated my rig to the eagle, while I continued listening to a bugling elk that had not yet shown himself.I kid you not—at the very instant this elk emerges from the shadows on the river bank, the bald eagle takes flight. I quickly captured the flying eagle (available as “Dawn’s Freedom”), whipped my camera around while simultaneously adjusting my camera’s settings, and then captured this stunning scene. This bull elk is bugling into the fog, directing his harem of cow elk as to where they should proceed as the sun rises. What a morning!
