Pascual Toso Malbec Alta Reserve Las Barrancas Vineyards 2013

right, dark red. Musky blackcurrant, licorice and smoky oak on the nose; I might have guessed that this was Cabernet. Smooth, pliant and sweet, with tobacco and smoky oak flavors dominating. A round, slightly reduced wine of moderate intensity and depth--and less verve than the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva--but easygoing, nicely balanced and attractive. Lacks only the thrust and spine for a higher score.   This is a solid red with a dense and chewy texture. Full-bodied, layered and rich. Tight and focused. Very pretty. Drink now or hold. Food pairingIdeal match for red meats, lamb, pasta and fermented cheeses.
