Another World

Artist Reflections “Thus, [Hashem] has many worlds, and goes to be seen in them.” - Midrash Tehillim on Psalm 18 Standing over the Ramon Crater located in the Negev Desert, I experience the vast perspective as something more than an overwhelmingness of grandeur. With few obstructions, everywhere I look is a point on the ground where I could be standing, so what I witness is an infinitude not just of space, but of possibility. In order to capture this feeling, rather than trying to frame the whole vista, I chose to use a lens with a longer focal length, which allowed me to zoom in and isolate a sliver of the expansive view and transport our perspective into another possible world. This method of zooming in to a specific frame is one I try to practice in my life, not just in my photography. When I am overwhelmed by all the pressures, information, and possibilities around me, if I manage to zoom in to the present moment and crop out the distractions, I find a window into another world - a
