Antique 1904 House of Hanover Royal Leather Blotter

Antique 1904 leather ink blotter portfolio cover. High relief embossed German blotter dedicated on June 7th 1904 with the coat of arms and motto "suscipere et finire" of the Kingdom of Hanover. The coat of arms depicts the British Coat of Arms encompassing the lesser coat of arms of Hanover inside. This was perhaps made for a knight of the order of Ernst August as this symbol surrounds the lesser shield of Hanover. The helmet is set affronty with an open visor inferring a knight or baronet of a minor branch of the now defunct house of Hanover with the crown over the lesser shield. This antique leather cover blotter is decorated on the reverse with diamond lozenges and has the makers mark H Hinzmann of Hannover who was retained as a leather worker for the royal house of Hanover. Marked: suscipere et finire, 7 Juni 1904 A great addition to your antique collection or eclectic office decor.
