Antique WCTU Gold Diamond Declamatory Medal

Vintage 14kt gold WCTU brooch. The pin bar has the word declamatory across it from which suspends a medal with the letters WCTU in white enamel on each edge. A raised diamond (tests positive) sits in the center surrounded by a wreath of laurels. This piece dates from the late 19th or early 20th century . Each piece tests for 14kt gold but neither is marked. Marked on front: Declamatory, WCTU Female crusaders established the WCTU in 1874 to campaign in favor of voting and legal rights for women and against alcohol consumption. With its motto of “Agitate-Educate-Legislate,” the WCTU led efforts to reform women and children’s welfare legislation. A great addition to your antique religious or temperance collection or early holiday gift for the numismatist.
