African Baule Guro Jimini Wood Heddle Pulley

 West Africa,  Circa mid 20th Century AD In the form of a buffalo head with pleasing triangular shaped face, curved horns on top, slender nose,  mouth with slight grin and incised teeth and semicircular slit eyes, scarification on front and rear, the head. The u shaped body pierced through as the legs for attachment containing the bobbin. Excellent nut brown patina. Sizes 8-1/4 inches H + custom mount. Provenance: From the estate of Jacques (1921-2023) and Frances Crampon (1922-2025). Captain Crampon was born in Belgium, joined the Merchant Marine, and eventually became a Captain in the US  Navy, on search and rescue ships. He and his wife, Frances, a singer and actress, met when she was on a USO tour to Japan.  Together they traveled the world, living for several years in Tokyo and Capetown.
