Published Veracruz Seated Sonriente with Rattle

Gulf coast of Mexico,  Ca. 600 to 800 AD. Buff color hollow pottery seated sonriente male figure, depicted with splayed legs, raised right hand holding a rattle, and left fingers touching his knee. Depicted with expressive facial features, parted lips with a toothy smile. Wearing a beaded pendant necklace, disc ear ornaments, a bra band, and shell type ankle bracelets.   Size: 9-1/8” (25 cm) H. x 10-3/8”W.Provenance:   Collection of Justin and Barbara Kerr  NYC. Acquired mostly 1970 through the 1980’s. Old collection label affixed to base, marked: “Kerr 27”.
