Early Dynastic I-II Date: ca. 2900 to 2600 BCE. Beautifully rendered fragmentary standing figure in gypsum stone, probably from a temple shrine, wearing a pleated garment with arms protruding from sleeves and folded across chest. Ancient Sumerians dedicated statues of themselves to their gods, placing them before the divine image in the temple. The posture of the votive statues, with hands clasped against the chest, ensured that they remained in constant prayer. Size: 5-7/8 in H. + custom base Condition: Head, feet and hand gone... Surface encrusted and with some high point losses....  Ex Brooklyn Private Coll Collection, Acq 2000s from David Libert, Time Machine NY, published in his black and white mail auction 12, January 9th 2003, lot M1.
