18TH CENTURY FEDERAL PERIOD TIGER MAPLE BEDWith our compliments we are delighted to offer you this 18th century New England Federal period tiger maple four poster bed. The bed employs 43" tall urn formed posts and a solid one board tiger maple headboard with a maple turned blanket rail. The bed has been modified with a professionally fabricated rail system fastened by french bolts. This bed was originally a rope foundation bed that took a horsehair mattress. At the turn of the 20th Century framed bedding came into existence along with awareness of public health issues. Cotton badding replaced horsehair mattress stuffing with size standardization's. Period beds needed to be modified in their sizes to accept the new bedding. This bed requires a low profiled rabbit edged foundation that drops into the rail system then a full sized mattress can simply be laid upon it. These are neither cost prohibitive or difficult to obtain with every major US city having at least one bedding maker. If yo
