19th C Antique Pair of Tiger Maple & Birds Eye Maple Sabre Leg Dining Chairs

Bay Colony Antiques is pleased to offer for sale this fantastic pair of 19th century antique Federal period Tiger Maple & Birds Eye Maple Sabre legs chairs. The front legs & rear stiles feature horizontal running tiger maple with the grain on the top of the crest, seat rail & curved stretcher deliberately running perpendicular. The splat and crest are well formed with good use of negative space. The chairs have Birds Eye Maple crests with a very desirable figuring. Dendrologists are still not 100% certain on what causes this strange birds eye figuring in the grain and we've heard every theory from fungal infections to genetic mutations, but the best answer is; we don't quite know yet. We've had to purchase birds eye stock for restorations in the past and it's becoming increasingly expensive.
