Chinese Carved Wood Plaque of Woman and Attendant Circa 1920
A decorative wood plaque with a subdued pallet. There is much handwork and it has a folksy quality. The deeply carved soft wood plaque was handmade and decorated. The design is of a house, tree, water, rocks, and a courtyard with two figures. The taller figure is of a woman with fan. She has an attendant with her that is holding a bowl. The wood has been colorized with gilt, red, black and white on the faces. There is a metal loop at the top to hang the plaque. There is a hole next to the ring and may have had a different hanger. MEASUREMENTS 10 ¾” (27.3 cm) tall x 9” (22.9 cm) wide x 5/8” (1.6 cm) thick. Weighs 14.8 oz (415 g) CONDITION There is a crack that is near the left side of the base that travels upward and shows on the back.
