Chinese Qing Lacquer Carved Box Scholars in the Garden

A lovely red lacquer box with an elaborate scene of an attendant leading one scholar to the bridge to meet a second scholar. The bridge has a low wall and they are surrounded by rocks, mountains and trees. The design is very detailed with deep carving. The sides of the box and lid have a cross hatch carving.   The interior and base are coated in black lacquer. The word CHINA is stamped on the box base in red.   MEASUREMENTS   5 ½” (14.0 cm) long x 3 ¾” (9.5 cm) deep x 1 ¾” (4.4 cm) tall. Weighs 11.8 oz (335 g)   CONDITION     There are splits and losses to the flange of the base that hold the lid, as well as to lid’s inner edge. One outer corner of the lid has a lacquer loss. Otherwise the rest of the box has small losses only. The detailed scene on the top the lid is in remarkable good shape. The color is bright with hardly any wear.   An antique box that has the auspicious red color for happiness. It is in remarkable good shape for its delicacy and age.
