Large Vintage Chinese Lacquered Hand-Carved Figure

A large heavy wood carving carved in the Ming style with much detail and painted lacquer finish. It is in the style of carvings from the Ming Dynasty but is from the late 20th C A block of wood has been carved in a design of a Chinese dignitary carrying tribute. The wood has been covered with red, black lacquer with gold accents. There is a rectangular cut out in the middle of the back. His attire is also very Ming. He also sports a Ming headdress. The base shows the growth rings of the wood. MEASUREMENTS 18 ¾” (47.6 cm) tall x 7” (17.8 cm) wide x 4 ¼” (10.8 cm) deep. Weighs 5 lbs 5.9 oz (2435 g) CONDITION There are losses and discoloration to the lacquers, worm holes (mostly in the base), and cracks and chips to the wood (again, mostly on the base).
