Pair 18th C Chinese Flower Basket Blue and White Saucers
A pair of very old blue and white saucers/small plates each with a slightly different design of Chinese flower arrangement basket painted with a deep cobalt blue color. The pair of saucers are thinly potted and translucent. One is a bit thinner than the other. The rims are painted with iron brown. The thinner dish has three cloud designs painted in the cobalt cavetto. The backs have quick paintings of grass or bamboo. The glazes feel very soft and smooth. The foot rings on both are slightly raised, cut and unglazed. One shows iron red on the edge of the foot. The paste is slightly off-white but still refined. The bases are glazed. Both bases have marks within a double cobalt ring. MEASUREMENTS Both saucers measure 4 ½” (11.4 cm) diameter x 5/8” (1.6 cm) tall. Weighs 5.8 oz (160 g) CONDITION One dish is thinner and has four hairlines with frits on the mouth rim. The other dish has no hairlines, cracks or breaks.
