Esseriana Butterwort
Ease to Grow: Moderate to Challenging.Dormancy: NoNative Range: Highlands of Tamaulipas, MexicoZones: 10-11 (8-12) The Esseriana Butterwort, Pinguicula esseriana, is a charming easy to grow Mexican butterwort with a small (±1/2") and tight rosette of lime green spatulate-shape leaves. The margins curl upward and often appear white, providing striking highlights across this carnivorous plant. It has short, shiny carnivorous leaves in the warm, wet Summer, and only slightly smaller succulent leaves in the cool, dry Winter. It prefers drier, loose, alkaline soils, and partial shade with warm, wet Summers and cooler, dry Winters. In its native habitat, it occurs within humus filled crevices of limestone cliffs. It flowers in late Spring with several pink flowers. It benefits from the addition of a small amount of pellet limestone added to the soil (1 teaspoon/4" pot). The Esseriana Butterwort does well on window sills, plant carts and greenhouses. Our Esseriana Butterworts are propagated f
