Karl Eduard Biermann (1803–1892) was a major German landscape painter, who often included a chapel or a church or some other Catholic element in his beautiful German forests and mountains. He was born in the early days of Romanticism and his paintings have a highly detailed, precise quality, such as this one. His later works shows a softening of style.
