Penobscot Blue Ribbon 4.0: American Amber Ale
The winning recipe for the fourth (almost) annual Maine Homebrewers Competition came to us from Jim Rausch, a veteran homebrewer who beat out several excellent submissions from some local brewers of note, including a few past champions! His amber ale, which he calls "Waldo Lake Amber," is a smooth and malty ale with a distinctly American twist. The American yeast and late hop additions tie this brew together with a nice, crisp finish. A great beer for any time of year! Color: 12 SRM. IBU: 50. ABV: 6.5%. Extract kits include liquid and/or dry malt extract, plus crushed specialty grains with a grain sock to steep. Partial mash kits include malt extract, plus a larger amount of crushed base malt and specialty grains with a grain sock, and require extra steeping time. All-grain kits include crushed base malt and specialty grains, and require advanced technique and equipment.
