The figure of Jesus turns his head toward heaven, toward the Eternal Father, in the form of a prayer. Indeed, the hand gestures suggest a recollection proper to the second station, where the Son of God was taunted by the people and stripped of his clothes.  Another figure also appears to support Jesus, holding up the cross for him while he is intent on prayer. The man looks up to the Son of God in admiration, wondering about his faith, hoping it can lead him to salvation.
