In the ninth station, the Redeemer falls for the last time on his journey. From the ground, Jesus sets his gaze upward, raising one arm toward heaven, invoking the Eternal Father.  With the other, he leans softly on the ground, while a man behind him helps him by supporting the cross. The man's gaze is turned toward the redeemer as a sign of care: the act of lifting the cross is a gesture of charity toward the one who is atoning for all of humanity's sins.
