Jade Pea God
Kenny Scharf - Jade Pea God “Jade Pea God” (1989) by Kenny Scharf is a silkscreen print on paper measuring 78.7x93.9 cm, produced in a limited edition of 150. The work perfectly embodies the artist's playful and surreal visual language, characterised by intense colours, organic shapes and an aesthetic inspired by pop culture and cartoons. The work presents a serpentine figure, composed of a series of jade-green spheres that gradually narrow towards the tail. The creature's face is expressive and cartoonish, with a broad smile, lively eyes and a curved moustache, giving it an ironic, almost mythological appearance. Its body seems to float against a background shaded in warm tones, ranging from yellow to orange and red, creating a suggestion of a sunset or abstract landscape. The image is framed by a purple border decorated with small white rectangles, resembling perforations, reminiscent of cinema film, a recurring reference in Scharf's work, which fuses visual elements of pop culture
