Agave ovatifolia (Whales Tongue Century Agave) One of the largest of the cold hardy agaves, this variety can grow to an astonishing 6 feet tall and 5 feet wide! The attractive mid-sized leaves are short, wide, and have a defining dark grey spine. We believe this ovatifolia agave is a "Frosty Blue" relative as its leaves are so pale blue/grey that they almost look silver or white in the right light! Plant in full sun to bright filtered light (best sheltered from full summer sun in hot climates) in a well-drained soil. Tolerates dry conditions but will grow much faster with regular summer irrigation - keep drier in winter. It is a moderate to fast grower, and has performed incredibly well in our cold high desert climate in central Oregon! It is hardy to at least USDA zone 6b, and parent plants have seen temperatures well below -0F. The key to growin
