Rodrigo Mata: Cancion de Cuna (Lullaby) for double bass quartet (2023)

About the Composition It is a very simple work composed, on the one hand, to fulfill its function as a lullaby and to be a pleasant melodic and harmonic sequence so that both children and adults can enjoy it. On the other hand, it is written in a very traditional notation to make it easy for young musicians to understand the form and style. Certainly, it is a work that requires some practice in the use of natural harmonics both with bow and pizzicatos, as well asRegular management of thumb positions can definitely be performed by young students at an intermediate level. It should be noted that the double bass is an extraordinary instrument with many sound possibilities; however, younger players sometimes need to find works that show some of its most attractive qualities, such as the melodic use in the middle and high registers and the use of harmonics.
