Rodrigo Mata: TEOTIHUACÁN for double bass quartet
About the Composition TEOTIHUACÁN (from the Nahuatl "City of Gods") is a work inspired by the pre-Hispanic mythology of Mesoamerica. Each movement is dedicated to a specific god, which is why the music in each episode relates to or describes the activity that metaphorically corresponds to these gods. The first movement is inspired by the god OMETÉOTL, known as the creator god. The second describes the god QUETZALCÓATL, who is designated as the god of war and is also known as the feathered serpent. The third is inspired by the god TLÁLOC, the god of rain, and the fourth movement tells us about the god MICTLANTECUHTLI, better known as the god of death and who, according to mythology, was believed to accompany all the deceased people to travel the nine levels of Mictlán until they reached the eternal rest.
