Rodrigo Mata: Ocelote de las Nieves (Snow Ocelot) for double bass quartet
About the Composition The title of the piece is directly related to an emblematic animal from Mexico, the Ocelot, which is an imaginary way is located in a winter landscape full of snow, which of course is not its natural habitat and for which said animal meets the challenge of adapting, living and surviving. Metaphorically it is a situation that in a different way has happened to many human beings and on this occasion, this musical work has been inspired by that element of life. Musically, the composer has sought to expand the technique of the instrument by exploring unconventional sounds that can be obtained from a double bass ensemble and fusing it with melodies, harmonies, and traditional rhythms from Mexico. This work has been dedicated to MUSHAMUKAS double bass ensemble, premiered by MUSHAMUKAS in Auditorio Renacimiento in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico in March 2021 and recorded for Instituto Estatal de la Cultura de Guanajuato.
