Jacob Warren: Wednesday Waltz for Violin and Double Bass (arr. by Warren and Flick)
About the Composition Wednesday Waltz is a tune that I wrote on a Wednesday (shocking, I know) in the summer after I got home from traveling for a little while. It was nice to be back in one place and to have nothing on my schedule for the day, and this tune was written from that feeling of just having a relaxed and lazy Wednesday. The tune is heavily inspired by American Waltzes from the fiddle idiom. It features three parts and, while mostly diatonic, uses harmony a bit differently than would be conventional for that style. It was fun to arrange this version with Grant Flick as we tried to create lush string cords, evoking a larger string ensemble sound from just our double bass and violin. Hope you enjoy it! The double bass part is in solo tuning. About the Composer Curiosity, commitment, and collaboration define Jacob Warren’s exceptional career as a multi-style double bassist, composer, and educator.
