This is a beautiful flat threaded holder made out of Brazilwood (Caesalpinia echinata) with Brazilian Rosewood (Dalbergia negra) cap. Two most important timbers Brazil has to offer are combined here in this acorn. The commercially extinct Brazilian Rosewood is the highly coveted timbers for guitar making. Brazilwood, also known as Pernambuco, is the wood of choice for violin bows. It is also the tree that give rise to the country of Brazil. This is the only instance when a country was named after a tree. I was visiting a small fishing village in Southern Mexico. While we stopped at a small hut on the beach for some fresh coconut juice, I noticed that all the column supporting the hut were made from reddish, knobby tree trunks with lots of character. Impressed, I asked the owner what type of tree those were. She said: Brazil. I asked: spelled like the country Brazil?. She nodded.
