Description: A nice large and heavy golden bronze medal from 1938. This is the Society of Medalists seventeenth issue medal. The obverse of the medal has the image of a nude woman holding a spirited infant with ball on a rough textured field. The image is surrounded by the legend "THE DANCE OF LIFEBEGINS EARLY AND GOES ON". The reverse shows a nude man being pulled and pushed by two contending nude female figures. The image is surrounded by the legend "WITH PLEASURE PAIN AND THE PROTAGONIST". There are the letters ASC (c) between the legs of the figures. The edge of the medal is marked "The Society of Medalists; Seventeenth Issue-A. Sterling Calder Sculptor" and "Medallic Art Co. N.Y. Bronze".
