Antique English Cowrie Shell Pocket Snuffbox Snuff Box Pewter Mounted Hinged Lid

Description: This a beautiful antique snuffbox or snuff box made from a cowrie or cowry shell. The shell has been hollowed out and fitted with a pewter mount having a hinged lid. The piece is monogrammed with what we believe are the letters IF in a decorative cursive lettering. This small snuffbox is in excellent condition and rather scarce. The entire pewter mount is in excellent condition and has developed a warm gray age patina. The lid closes well and snaps in place without risk of opening. The box is relatively clean inside and out. The piece is marked with the word "LONDON" on the inside of the lid suggesting that it was made in England. We believe the box was made in the early 19th century or possibly earlier. The box has a paper sticker applied to the inside of the lid, most likely put there by the previous owner, which describes the box. A beautiful box in very good condition after being around for what we believe is at least 200 years. A nice addition to any collection. Pleas
