Antique Forged Wrought Iron Side Mount Mustache Hinge Southeastern Pennsylvania
Description: This is an antique handmade side mount Mustache Hinge. The piece is made of forged wrought iron and has a tube or pintle on one side where it would fit on a rod or a mount pintle extending out from a second piece on the door frame, which we do not have and is not offered in this sale. The hinge has the shape of a mustache and has holes to be nailed into the moving portion of the door. The piece shows rust and pitting and you can see it was hand made by observing the manufacturing errors. This is the style seen in Pennsylvania German and Moravian communities in southeastern Pennsylvania. A nice antique, which would make a good addition to any collection. Please carefully review photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Uncertain, but most likely early to mid 1800s (early to mid 19th century), could be earlier. Origin: Purchased at an antiques auction in Lancaster Pennsylvania, where it was most likely made. Size: The hinge measures ~7 1/8" long, is ~2"
