Antique Metal Snuffbox Blue Japanned Shoe Bright Cut Engraved Decoration

Description: Antique snuffbox or snuff box made of unidentified metal in the form of a shoe. The shoe is painted or japanned in blue coloring on the outside. The top of the shoe has bright-cut engraved decoration throughout. The top of the shoe has a hinged lid that opens to reveal the inside compartment. The shoe has a heal and a pointed tip. It has two labels on the inside, one describing the item and another with the inscription S&S (we truly do not know what that means). We chose not to remove the labels and instead we are selling the box as found. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Uncertain, but most likely early to mid 1800s. Origin: Continental, most likely England. Size: The box measures ~3 7/8" long, ~1" wide, and is ~1" at its highest.
