Description: A nice large and heavy bronze medal from 1948. This is the Society of Medalists thirty seventh issue medal. The medal has the image of John the Baptist baptizing Jesus in the Jordan River with the legend "BLESSED* ARE*THE*MEEK*FOR*THEY*SHALL*INHERIT*THE*EARTH" within a dotted circle along the edge of the medal. The reverse shows a nude Salome holding the severed head of John the Baptist with a horse in the background. There is the name MICHAEL LANTZ 48 (c) below the image. The medal has a beautiful matte dark brassy patina. The edge of the medal is marked "The Society of Medalists Thirty Seventh Issue 1948-MIHAEL LANTZ Sculptor" and "Medallic Art Company N.Y. Bronze".
