Description: A beautiful gilt bronze medal commemorating the death of pope Pius IX February 7, 1878 by Giovanni. The obverse depicts the image of the pope with the legend "PIVS.IX.PONT.MAX.AN.XXXI" along the edge. The obverse has the inscription "GIOV.VAGNETTI.F.IN.FIRENZE" below the pontiff's bust. The reverse has the legend ""IN MEMORIA DELPADREE PONTEFICE TOLTO ALL'AMOREDELLA CRISTIANITA IL 7. FEBBR.1878" in the center and is surrounded with highlights of the pontiff's achievements with dates all along the edge. The medal was designed by Giovanni Vagnetti. It weighs ~72.7 grams and measures ~51 mm in diameter. This is a beautiful medal with a nice portrait of the Pontiff.
