Shinko Asian Pear Tree
The Shinko Asian Pear Tree (Pyrus pyrifolia ‘Shinko’) is a mid-size deciduous fruiting pear tree that is broad in structure. It is also called an apple pear because of it's resemblance to that of an apple. Pears from this Asian Pear tree are also shaped more like an apple than a pear. This pear tree produces fruit that has brownish-amber skin. The flesh is yellowish-white, crisp, and juicy with a distinctively rich, sweet flavor. The fruit is medium to large, round and flattish, with an attractive brown to golden-brown russet. Shinko is moderately susceptible to fire blight; resistant to pear scab and black spot. At least two cultivars are needed to ensure adequate pollination. Try Hosui, Shinko, or other Asian pears.
