1920's / 1930's occult uncut beaded purse textile | VINTAGE
1920's / 1930's (possibly later? - see my notes) steel-cut, jet and glass seed beads on inky blue cotton velvet purse is unfinished and uncut Mel's notes: I've had this in my collection for a long time now, and I still don't know what to make of it. It reminds me a bit of Schiaparelli's 1937 zodiac collection. I translated the Theban script on it (message me if you'd like more info), but it remains an enigma. Who made it, and why? Why wasn't it completed? You can see the outline of where the frame would have been attached. The workmanship is stunning - completely hand-done; the fairies with wisps of metallic thread for their hair, the planets orbiting above. It's a truly special piece for those interested in the occult, but it should be handled with the utmost care and respect... 14"L x 8"W Folded in half (at the botton), the piece measures 7"H x 8"W - Condition report: pristine, albeit unfinished
