Beginning Jazz Guitar, Jean Chaumont, Wednesday, 5:30pm-7:00pm

This class will meet weekly on Wednesdays, June 26th - August 28th. New to jazz but not new to the guitar? Jazz Guitar essentials is designed to give the student the essential tools needed to participate in a jam session or small jazz combo as a guitarist. Topics will include basic chord types and shapes common to jazz standards as well as rhythms and techniques associated with jazz jam sessions and small combos. Emphasis will be placed on playing examples and getting the concepts “under the fingers.”  Jazz Guitar Essentials covers many of the basic skills guitars players work through with as they start to learn jazz, including: Which chord shapes to focus on first to quickly start playing with other people. Which songs and styles to focus on to prepare for playing in public jam sessions. Defining the role of the guitar in the jazz combo. How to practice effectively to grow your confidence.
