1819 French Empire .950 Silver Chocolate Pot by Charles L. Dupree w/ Crests
We are offering a... Beautiful French Chocolate Pot, in the empire style, dated to 1819 by the Parisian master goldsmith, Charles-Louis Doupré. The chocolate pot sits on three stylized paw feet, which meet the body in an applied foliate design. It has a wonderfully shaped ebony handle. The lid has a ribbed melon finial, and a gadrooned rim. The spout is very distinct without a strainer, meaning that it was used for chocolate. The crest is of a crown over a shield with a rampant Lion flanked by two unicorns. With a little research, this crest is an important or possibly royal coat of arms. If anyone can identify the crests please let us know. This is a very rare and beautiful piece of .950 Silver, marked "L. Dupre" in a diamond on both the underside of the pot and on the inside of the lid. The inside of the lid also has the First standard Paris Old Man Vieillard silver hallmark. One either side of the handle towards the lid are marks, one is again the Vieillard Old Man First s
