Aloha Pacific Cruises: It all sounds so nice - the 1988 revival of the classic American ship MONTEREY under the American flag. What could possibly go wrong? Nothing, according to these two deluxe brochures. In reality, everything. "The Maiden Voyage will indeed remind her passengers of the past elegance and charm of old-world cruising," promised the overly-optimistic introduction. "And when it comes to formal dining, you'll be served innovative cuisine ..." Unfortunately that innovation included food poisoning as the prep areas had not been completed when the MONTEREY departed the shipyard after a massive rehab. Several passengers on the Copenhagen to San Francisco maiden voyage, some of whom paid 33-grand for the pleasure, suffered from diarrhea and stomach cramps. A twenty-page. brochure from 1987 contains interior renderings and glowing prose. Plans include the five passengers decks on the MONTEREY and sample cabin lay-outs. I'm skeptical of any company that screws up photographs
