Escape from Alcatraz - Bay Fog, Sea Salt, and Watery Musk Frank Morris, John and Clarence Anglin, and Allen West. These four men did the impossible and escaped "The Rock." Noone knows for sure who the true mastermind of the escape was, but over the period of 6mos the four men made tunnels within their cells and covered them until the time was right. to help cover their escape they also created papier Mache dummy heads and piled up pillows to make it look like they were still in their beds as they made their escape. After tunneling through the cell walls they entered an unguarded utility corridor and set up a workshop, where they gathered over 50 raincoats and subsequent materials to construct life preservers and a raft to which they could leave the island.  On the night of June 11, 1962, after lights out at 9:30 PM, with all preparations in place, the four men initiated their plan to escape.
