1722 Copper Engraving Portrait Melchior Baron Von Redern Imperial Military EUM5
This is an original 1722 black and white copper engraving of "Melchior von Redern," also known as Melchior Baron von Redern, a nobleman and General in the Imperial Army during the Ottoman Wars. A Protestant, Redern promoted the economic development of Friedland. Redern founded the mining town of Neustadt, Bohemia, in 1584 and the village of Weissenbach in 1594. The portrait is surrounded by a wonderful decorative motif featuring botanical borders and a crowned shield above an angel at the bottom of the print. This piece is accompanied by the original German biographical text printed on a separate sheet and featuring a decorative drop cap, vignette and head-and tail-pieces.CONDITIONThis 289+ year old Item is rated Near Mint / Very Fine.
