- Ginza -
The striking woodblock print Ginza is by Sumio Kawakami (1895–1972). Depicting the lively spirit of Tokyo’s renowned Ginza district in the late 1920s, this impression is a later printing from the original blocks, issued as part of the supplement to Kawakami Sumio Zenshu (Complete Works of Sumio Kawakami, Vol. 2), published in 1979 in a limited edition of 380. The blocks were originally carved in 1929 (Showa 4). A fine example of the Sosaku Hanga movement, the bold use of color and line imbues the work with remarkable vitality.
