Introducing 5 Sentidos Ensamble de 4 Magueyes, a captivating field blend meticulously crafted by maestro mezcalero Atenogenes García in the Miahuatlan region of Oaxaca. This particular batch, a private selection for the Aficionados spirits group, showcases the distinctive characteristics of a field blend commonly found in Miahuatlan. Atenogenes García expertly blended four unique agave varieties, resulting in a harmonious ensemble. Comprising 45% Bicuixe (Agave karwinskii), 25% Coyote (Agave lyoba - a hybrid of Agave karwinskii and Agave potatorum), 25% Tepextate (Agave marmorata), and 5% Madrecuixe (Agave karwinskii), this mezcal captivates with its complexity and depth. To create this exceptional ensamble, the agaves were roasted together for six days, imparting a rich smokiness. The large tahona, pulled by an old Ford tractor, skillfully crushed the roasted agaves.
