ca. mid twentieth century 18" x 12 3/4", 45.5 cm x 32.5 cm This is a lovely piece of indigo dyed cotton shibori: the technique used to produce this complex pattern is a from of arashi shibori, arashi meaning storm, so the allusion is that of driving rain, and many variations of arashi are based on strong diagonals. The cotton seems not to be hand loomed, however the indigo is likely botanical, if not wholly, then in part. Rich in pattern, this is a stunning little piece of hand made Arimatsu shibori.
