early to mid twentieth century27" x 11", 68.5 cm x 28 cm This is a length of indigo dyed cotton shibori that was produced in Arimatsu, one of the towns in Aichi prefecture that was a leading producer and innovator in the production of shibori. The pattern of this scrunched length of shibori shows a design of imaginary "diamond flowers" set against a field of tightly stitched mokume shibori. The cloth has contracted in width due to the intensely packed rows of stitched mokume shibori. The shibori is dyed onto a length of commercially loomed, fairly lightweight cotton and is in good, used condition. Wonderful to look at!
