early twentieth centuryeach book approximately: 7 x 5 1/2", 18 cm x 14 cm This is a nice group of five slim, old daifukucho. A daifukucho is a hand bound, hand written book that was originally used for inventories, for accounting, for ledgers or as a record of loans. Each of the books is about 1/2 filled with hand writing which was done in sumi or charcoal-based ink. Its covers show hand written kanji or Chinese characters and they are bound with twisted cord made from recycled paper. A good example of a traditional daifukucho.
